The Ducks announced Wednesday morning that Coach Randy Carlyle has been given a two-year contract extension, which keeps him behind the bench through the 2010-2011 season.
Carlyle had one season left on his contract. He is entering his fourth season as Ducks coach in which he is 138-74-34, a franchise record for victories and winning percentage (63 percent).

Carlyle deserves this extension. The former Norris Trophy winner has become one of the NHL’s best coaches and led the Ducks to the 2007 Stanley Cup championship. His team had an off year in 2007/08 but much of that can probably be attributed to the uncertainty surrounding Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne. With a 63% career winning percentage, Carlyle has proven his worth as an NHL coach.
