Captain Adam Lowry doesn’t have an update on a potential contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets

With training camp on the horizon here in Winnipeg there has been talk about the two players entering the 2025-26 season in the final year of their respective contracts. Captain Adam Lowry is entering the fifth year of his $16.25M deal signed back in 2021 which came with a $3,250,000 cap hit. As well Kyle Connor is entering the final year of his seven year 50 million dollar deal signed in 2019 with a cap hit of $7,142,857.

At the end of season media availability back in May the big Albertan told us he pictures himself as a “Winnipeg Jet for life”. He was eligible to sign an extension on July 1st.

Of course the Jets organization has signed a number of players to extensions during training camp. Most recently we saw Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck sign identical seven-year contract extensions which took place on the final day of training camp back in 2023 and there are countless other examples of players getting a new contract in September/October.

Which brings us to Thursday at hockey for all centre where we had a chance to hear from Adam Lowry as he continues to rehab from offseason hip surgery. Unsurprisingly one of the questions posed to him was if there was any update on his contract status.

“I’d love to have an update but so far, I think there’s another guy that’s a little more important than me, so I don’t have any concerns about where we’re at. I’m focused on my recovery, I’m focused on getting myself back to being a contributing player for the Winnipeg Jets. Like I said before I love playing in Winnipeg. I don’t see an issue with us getting something done eventually.”

Unlike the situation with Nikolaj Ehlers, which lasted all season long and resulted in the player walking to free agency, you can likely expect the Jets and Lowry to iron out details of a new deal sooner rather than later.
