From TSN:

After retiring as one of the most popular Vancouver Canucks in franchise history, Trevor Linden will see his number 16 sweater raised to the rafters of General Motors Place.

“Retiring a player’s sweater is one of the highest honours a club can pay to its most elite players and ambassadors,” said Chris Zimmerman, President and CEO, Canucks Sports & Entertainment.

“Trevor embodies the qualities we strive for as an organization; character, hard working, commitment, generous and loyal. We are proud that his sweater will hang beside Stan Smyl’s at General Motors Place.”

Linden was Captain Canuck.  Despite his time in Washington, Montreal and New York, Linden’s heart was in Vancouver during his entire career.  He gave the community of Vancouver so many goals and assists (867 career points) and almost led the team to the 1994 Stanley Cup.  However as much as he did for the team on the ice, it is his contributions off the ice that are most impressive.  His work with charities, sick kids and people from all different walks of life make the decision to retire his number an easy one.
