Back-to-back shutouts for Connor Hellebuyck leads Winnipeg Jets (13-1-0) to 1-0 win over Avs

The Jets won for the 13th time in 14 games as they held on for a 1-0 win over division rival Avalanche with Connor Hellebuyck making 34 saves for his second straight shutout and 40th of his career. That’s also the fifth straight win by the Jets.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats click here to see the results from the game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

Give him five goals in his last six games as Gabriel Vilardi opened the scoring for the Jets with his sixth goal of the season on a perfect dish from Mark Scheifele. That’s six straight games that 55 has at least one assist.

The Jets held a 15-9 shot edge after 20, things were tied 9-9 in the middle frame and then the visitors went buck wild in the final 20 outshooting the home team 12-2 at one point but finished at 16-4 in the 3rd.

The Jets stayed out of the penalty box until there was 1:10 left in the 3rd which gave the 2nd best PP in the NHL a chance to tie the game with Josh Morrissey heading to the sin bin for holding.

But Connor Hellebuyck stood tall making a total of 16 saves in the 3rd period and 34 in total for his 40th shutout. He tied John Vanbiesbrouck and Frank Brimsek for 4th on the All-Time list of U.S. born goalies.

As per the NHL, Winnipeg become just the second team in NHL history to win 13 of their first 14 games (2007-08 Senators).

Remarkable run:

1st in NHL – wins (13)
1st in NHL – points (26)
1st in NHL – winning % (.929)
1st in NHL – Power Play (42.1%)
1st in NHL – Goals for (63)
