The Moose were absent some players last night (Jansen Harkins, Cole Maier & Evan Polei) to kick off the six-game homestand but that didn’t stop them from picking up the 2-0 win over the Wolves. Despite missing those notable forwards it was a pair of Edmontonians in Nicholas Jones and who got it done while Oskari Salminen had a big night in net (and also tried for a goalie goal).
Lineup news:
Those three players remained absent this evening. Manitoba went with the exact same lineup as last night including giving Oskari Salminen his fifth straight start.
Moose lineup:
Limoges – Toninato – Bolland
Malott – Bongiovanni – Reichel
Burke – Nikkanen – Johnson
Jones – Meireles – Torgersson
Chisholm – Gawanke
Sautner – Stewart
Lundmark – Bauer
Salminen
Holm
Notable:
About the only positive for the Moose in the opening period of play was this hit and then spirited tilt by young Jets prospect Tyrel Bauer who continues to show he can handle pro tilts.
Nice play by Jets prospect Henri Nikkanen (2019 4th) to use his big body to shield the puck and then feed Leon Gawanke who fired the puck on net from long range for his eighth of the year (havoc created by Nicholas Jones in front helped immensely) which cut the Moose deficit in half.
Second straight game with a goal for Brayden Burke who gets some help from a defender’s stick.
Jets 2018 5th rounder Declan Chisholm sets a new career high in assists with 23 in game 35 (he had two in this game). He had 21 assists in 53 games last season.
The teams split the two-game series here in Winnipeg. Manitoba falls to 19-13-2-1 on the season.
Health Updates:
As per head coach Mark Morrisson the trio of Jansen Harkins, Cole Maier & Evan Polei remain day-to-day.
