All the latest from Manitoba Moose training camp

The Manitoba Moose have had a few days of their 11th training camp since returning to Winnipeg. For the first couple of days they were using a number of players from their ECHL affiliate in Norfolk as well as players from the University of Manitoba Bisons to bolster their lineup as most of their regulars were still with the Jets at their training camp.

The Jets have cut a number of veterans and put them on waivers for purposes of assignment to Manitoba including Mason Shaw and Phil Di Giuseppe on Monday (both cleared Tuesday) as well as Tyrel Bauer and Isaak Phillips on Tuesday (both cleared today). Today three more players (Jaret Anderson-DolanSamuel Fagemo and Kale Clague) were placed on waivers and we will know tomorrow afternoon if they made it through or not.

In addition the Moose have received a number of Jets prospects including Fabian Wagner (2022 6th) and Jacob Julien (2023 5th) on Sunday, Danny Zhilkin (2022 3rd) on Tuesday and I wouldn’t be surprised if Colby Barlow (2023 1st) and Brayden Yager (2023 1st) are with the team in the next 24 hours. You can also likely expect Elias Salomonsson (2022 2nd), Brad Lambert (2022 1st) and Nikita Chibrikov (2021 2nd) to be the last cuts of Jets training camp who end up joining Manitoba. That’s a lot of prospects but luckily for them they’ll have excellent veteran insulation with the Moose.

Today at camp:

Things got started with goalie coach Drew MacIntyre warming up Winnipegger Isaac Poulter.

The Moose are facing off against the University of Manitoba Bisons tonight at hockey for all centre. The non-game group skated first this morning and it wasn’t a big surprise that these guys (Danny Zhilkin, Phil Di Giuseppe, Mason Shaw and Ashton Sautner) won’t be playing.

The game group hit the ice for a skate followed by working on skills. Chase Yoder, who signed with the Moose as a free agent, worked on his hand-eye coordination with assistant coach Morgan Klimchuk.

Note the player interviews were recorded today while our conversation with Moose head coach Mark Morrison took place on Tuesday.

Player media:

The conversation with Chase Yoder, who signed with the Moose after spending time in the Penguins organization, runs from the start of the video to the 3:53 mark. He spoke about his highlight reel goal at the Prospect Showdown in front of 20,000 Habs fans, his connection to the organization, becoming a pro and more.

We thereafter spoke with Manitoban Dawson Barteaux who is back for his third season in his home province. He discussed his summer, Jets training camp, practicing with future Hall of Famer Jonathan Toews and more.

Coach media:

We discuss the season ahead, the progress the Jets prospects have made, insulating the kids with good veterans and the addition of a new D coach in Bob Nardella.
