Afternoon Delight: Thrashers having trouble selling out opener

  • Two minutes for being stupid gives Clint Malarchuk two minutes for being stupid.   Honestly, who shoots rabbits?
  • Daryl Reagh with a cool feature on what everyone from the 1999 Dallas Stars cup winning team is doing these days. So that’s what Derek Plante is doing!
  • The Thrashers are probably not going to sell out their home opener tomorrow.  It is a shame.  Even though their team is going to be bad, it’s the home opener and a chance to watch Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Bogosian in person.
  • Remember when hockey tickets were affordable? Those were the days…
  • Want to know what’s up in Major Junior hockey across North America? Mark Pargas of the NY Times has a run down. Informative.
  • The Canucks extended Alex Edler today for four more years. No word yet on the terms but good move by Mike Gillis and his staff.  Edler is good positionally, strong on the puck and is a very adept puck-mover.  There is little not to like about the youngster’s game.
  • Is Bryan Berard headed to the KHLHe’d be a nice fit over there.
  • How will Philly react to Sarah Palin tomorrow? As Jerry Seinfeld said “This is going to be a shame.”
  • Allan Muir says Barry Melrose will be the first NHL coach fired this season. Don’t see that at all.
