• The Canucks have acquired Shane O’Brien and Michel Ouellet from the Tampa Bay Lighning for Lukas Krajicek and a prospect.  Most excited about this trade? Probably the Manitoba Moose because Ouellet will start the season in the AHL and can be a big-time sniper down on the farm.
  • Here is Iain MacIntyre’s take on the deal.  On the other side, here is Damian Cristodero’s take.  Why stop there?  Waiting for Stanley weighs in too.
  • The Flames have placed Jamie Lundmark, Rhett Warrener and Anders Eriksson on waiversWarrener and Eriksson were already on waivers earlier this summer and Lundmark almost certainly won’t get claimed.  These moves aren’t surprising.
  • The Blue Jackets have released Richard MatvichukHe wasn’t expected to make the team but did have a nice effect on some of the team’s younger defenders.
  • The Capitals have demoted Chris Bourque and Karl Alzner.  These kids sure impressed at camp, so it is only a matter of time before they are both mainstays in the Capitals line-up.
  • Dave Dye with his predictions on what the Red Wings will do with their roster cuts.  So much depth it is really scary.
  • Hurricanes forward Scott Walker (hand) is going to be out of the line-up for about six weeksAnother loss up front for the now thin Canes.
  • Looks like Kings prospect Teddy Purcell may start the season in the AHL, writes Rich Hammond.  Hammond explains that the Kings were more impressed with Matt Moulson.
  • Colton Gillies made the Wild and he was certainly excited, writes Mike Russo.  Gillies earned his way onto this team.
  • Jim Gintonio with his roster analysis of the Coyotes.  So much young talent on this roster, imagine if Wheeler was still around.
  • Darren Eliot of SI likes the direction the Blues are headed.  Hard not to.  They are loaded with young talent up front.
  • Is the World Cup of Hockey coming back? If it does, they better go back to best-of-three and get rid of this one game final business.
