• According to Craig Custance of The Sporting News, Ondrej Pavelec has rejected his assignment to the AHL.  Pavelec is arguably better than Johan Hedberg who was re-signed over the off-season, so I’m sure his anger was built up over the summer.
  • There was no truth to the rumors that the NHL was watching any Ducks/Leafs transactions closely.  Makes sense, since there doesn’t seem to be any need to worry.
  • Mikael Backlund is returning to Sweden, as the Flames cut three more players today.  Backlund just didn’t earn a spot on the team and will return next season with increased expectations.
  • Rod Brind’Amour has been cleared to play by the Hurricanes doctors.  He will be ready to roll for the regular season opener next week.
  • The Senators and Daniel Alfredsson’s agent met today to discuss a contract extension.  Sounds like a deal is just a matter of time.
  • Your European hockey report from Jeff Klein of the NY Times.  Insightful as always.
  • The Chris Chelios injury may actually be a good break (no pun intended) for the Red Wings. Good points by Allen.
