Admirals end Moose nine game winning streak with 4-3 shootout win

The Moose took on Nashville’s AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals in a matinee affair at Bell-MTS Place. Coming into the game, the Moose were winners of 9 straight games, and were attempting to tie the franchise record with 10 straight victories (last done by the 2007 Moose). The Moose were also second in the AHL in winning percentage to the Toronto Marlies, and led the entire AHL in goal differential (38), and goals per game (3.75).

(4) Game Summary

Chaotic game from the Moose perspective.  This team came in having won nine straight but after a week off their energy level probably wasn’t where they anticipated it to be.  Despite this they took a 3-1 lead into the 1st intermission after goals from Schilling, Maclise and a nifty one by Mason Appleton.

However the Moose picked an inopportune time to press their attack and a Milwaukee counter attack led to a Jimmy Oligny goal to bring the visitors within one.

The final frame saw the Moose have their consecutive penalty kill streak end at 29 when Tyler Kelleher tied the game with six minutes left in the 3rd period.

OT was exciting but solved nothing.

The shootout saw Mike Sgarbossa score for the Moose with Kirkland equaling it for the Admirals in Round 1.  Then Nic Petan didn’t score but Trevor Smith gave the Admirals a 2-1 lead.  Brendan Lemieux was the potential final shooter for Manitoba and put it off the post which meant that the visitors left with the two points.

Manitoba is 9-0-0-1 in their last 10 games.
