A couple notable referees to retire

From Tim Wharnsby of the Globe & Mail:

Look for the retirement announcements soon of NHL referees Rob Shick and Mick McGeough, as well as linesman Pat Dapuzzo. Shick was hindered by knee problems this past season, while McGeough, who turns 51 on June 20, and Dapuzzo, 49, were slowing down. None of the three officiated the Stanley Cup playoffs this spring.

Read the short entry here.

These are a couple of referees that I grew up watching, so they provided a certain familiarity to the game. Referees rarely, if ever, get lauded for doing a good job but these two refs and one linesman must have sure been doing something right if they lasted in the game as long as they did.
