Marek asked Friedman what he sees Kevin Cheveldayoff doing this deadline:

“I don’t know that I’m expecting Winnipeg to do very much here. What a huge win on Saturday. They looked finished in Carolina, they came back and won that game. They won Sunday night in Buffalo. Another game they were losing 2-1 and they came back and they won that game. Things are going really well for them. I would say that the only concern is ‘what are we dealing with Vilardi here’ and if that’s a problem do you have to replace it?”

He continued with talk about Jets potential to add on D:

“But, do I think maybe they’ve considered a defence, yeah I think that’s entirely possible. Also don’t forget they’ve got good some good depth defencemen in the organization. Heinola. They’ve kinda talked about giving him another opportunity cause he got hurt. Capobianco has been a big scorer in the American Hockey League this year. I do think they’ve at least considered the possibility of going bigger than that. To me I don’t know off the top of my head that they have considered anything much larger than another defencemen.”

He went on to discuss roles:

“I know their fans there, they want to see Ehlers on the top line. But if you look at their forwards and look at their D there are kinda places for everyone. They’re going to have to create more room for Perfetti but that now may be a next season thing, for Perfetti to play in a scoring role. But when you look at a Rick Bowness team it’s very clear that he sees roles for everyone. Almost everyone on this team, almost everyone has clearly defined roles. And Bowness likes that. So I would be curious to see, unless he went out and was able to get another D who really move the needle, I would be very curious to see how the Jets would tamper with what Bowness has here. He seems to really like his mix.”

So it appears Friedman believes the Jets won’t be making a big splash before Friday’s Trade Deadline. If Winnipeg does anything stay tuned (and ensure you’re subscribing) to the Illegal Curve YouTube channel.
