32 Thoughts Podcast | Friedman with the latest on Pierre-Luc Dubois, Winnipeg Jets & L.A. Kings

Can’t do a 32 Thoughts Podcast these days without a Jets mention. On the episode released today Jeff Marek asked Elliotte Friedman for the latest regarding Pierre-Luc Dubois and the Los Angeles Kings.

Friedman indicated:

“I had heard a rumour that they had permission to talk to him. That was flat out denied to me. But I had heard a rumour that they had permission to talk to him and like I said I was told no. I believe that everybody, like the Jets, the Kings, his representatives they were coming into Nashville on Sunday. We’ll see where this goes but there’s definitely traction, there’s definitely movement. I think one of the most interesting things here is going to see if Dubois signs an eight-year deal or signs a one-year deal to get L.A. through this season of cap gymnastics and then extends. Sort of like Kotkaniemi did or Mikey Anderson did for the Kings last year. I’m wondering about that. I don’t know if he’s going to sign the big deal right away. I would wonder before Colorado traded for Ryan Johansen I wonder if Colorado took a run at this. I don’t think it was ever close, I’m not convinced that at the end of the day it was going to work but I have a sneaking suspicion that Colorado took a run at it. But I think at the end of the day the places that Dubois was willing to go, there just weren’t a lot of options that really worked and L.A. has been aggressive like we talked about and I think some people would be surprised if it doesn’t happen but nothing is done until it’s done. For the Kings, what are we looking at here? I think we’re all trying to figure that out. I think a lot of people wonder about Valardi, a lot of people wonder about one of Iafallo and Arvidsson to make it work.”

He went on to talk about the Kings dealing Durzi to the Coyotes because they knew he’d have a big arb case for 2024-25.  Ended with:

“We’ll see where this goes here but like I said I think this is working towards something. When it comes to the Kings and the Jets there’s a lot of questions about Byfield, these predictions can always end up exploding all over your face but I don’t think Byfield’s in this. I mean I know there’s been a lot of rumours about Byfield. I don’t think so.”

Just some more info. To listen it starts at 12:08.
