On the 32 Thoughts Podcast which was released today Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed a number of topics including Pierre-Luc Dubois. Marek asked for the latest on the Jets centre.
Friedman indicated
“There are some teams here who really think that L.A. is going to take a run at him. We mentioned it quickly the other day, there’s always a surprise team right? Kopitar has one year left on his contract and I don’t know what the future is there, I’m not trying to start anything. I had some guys tell me that they think L.A. is going to take a big run at this guy.”
Marek then spoke about the other centres in the Kings organization in Phillip Danault who has four more years left on his deal and specifically 2nd overall pick in the 2020 draft Quinton Byfield and how this type of trade would block his path.
After some discussion about that aspect of this type of trade Friedman indicated that for the contract for Dubois folks are suggesting:
“A lot of people are assuming 8 x 9 and I don’t think that’s wrong. But I think, what some people are telling me, is that there is probably a little bit of a swing there. Like it’s as high as Barzal which is 9.15 and it could go as low as Larkin which is 8.75*. So it’s going to be somewhere in that range.”
*Just a quick note that Larkin’s contract is 8.70
Given the Kings have one of the deepest prospects pool that would be a good thing for this Jets team. (7th best according to prospects expert Scott Wheeler).
