There hasn’t been much doing since new head coach Scott Arniel was hired by the Jets. The team is still waiting to name a new assistant/associate coach and none of the team’s UFAs or RFAs have been signed including big left side Dman Brenden Dillon.
There was nothing too earth shattering from Elliotte Friedman in the episode of 32 Thoughts (Jets talk at the 32:32 mark) which was released today as he and Jeff Marek turned their attention in the podcast to free agency which gets underway on July 1st.
Marek introduced the topics by saying:
“Defenceman. Left-shot. Brenden Dillon. Winnipeg Jets. What do you hear? What do you know?”
Friedman responded with:
“I just heard he’s going to free agency. I think there were some conversations between him and the Jets. You never rule anything out Jeff, but I don’t think there’s going to be any re-signing with Winnipeg before the window opens, so I expect Dillon to hit the market.”
He went on to say that “it appears to be a very good market for defencemen”.
One additional note came via Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Sun who added this to the discussion via twitter:
“Just circling back on Brenden Dillon and his status ahead of July 1. I’m told pending UFA held conversations with the #NHLJets recently, so the door isn’t closed, but that he’s expecting to go to the market and see what’s out there. “Can always circle back.”
So that’s the latest on that front.
