2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Golden Knights 5 Jets 2 post-game 2 recap

If a hockey game was just 20 minutes the Jets would be returning to Winnipeg with a 2-0 series lead but hockey is a 60 minute (or more) game and the Golden Knights got rolling in the middle and took the game over in the 3rd to even the series 1-1.

Notable:

The Jets started the game the right way holding a quick 4-0 shot edge and they kept it rolling. Connor Hellebuyck did make a fantastic save on the first two shots that the Golden Knights took after the five minute mark.

Back-to-back games with a goal for Adam Lowry as he tipped home a point shot on the power play. He’s got eight playoff goals which ties him with Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine for 3rd on the all-time list.

Shots ended up 11-2 for Winnipeg at the midpoint of the 1st which reflected the fact that the Jets continued in game 2 as they ended game 1. They had a shot edge of 21-4 in the 30 minutes of hockey between these clubs (3rd period of game 1 and first 10 of 1st).

The only guy who didn’t get a penalty in the 1st period of the Jets and Golden Knights game was that dude in the yellow hoodie back in Toronto.

The Golden Knights got a fortuitous bounce to tie the game in the 2nd period and then they took the lead off a nifty tip by Jack Eichel.

Kyle Connor matched the total for most shots ever in a Jets playoff game (8) which was set back on May 1st, 2018 (Game 3 vs Preds) by both Patrik Laine and Blake Wheeler. He did it by the 2nd period.

But the Jets bent and did not break which allowed Kevin Stenlund to score a goal to tie the game 2-2. A 4th line goal was large. That was his second career playoff goal. His first came back on August 19th, 2020 for Columbus.

The primary assist on the second Jets goal was just the second career playoff point for Saku Maenalanen. His first point (also an assist) came almost four years ago (April 28th, 2019) with the Hurricanes.

The Golden Knights came out hot in the final frame and got two goals to propel them to a game 2 win to even the series.
