A brutal loss by the Jets to start this three-game homestand as they blow it late (4.3 seconds left) which gives the Sharks a 5-4 victory. They fall to 40-25-4 on the season.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Game Play:

– Marc-Edouard Vlasic opened the scoring for the Sharks as he buried a rebound eight minutes into the 1st;
– 32 seconds later Andrew Copp tipped home a Ben Chiarot shot to tie the game;
– 33 seconds later Bryan Little tossed a shot on net from the Sharks blueline which deflected in to give Wpg a 2-1 lead;
– But Hertl made a beauty inside out move and then Gustav Nyqvist buried the backhand up and over to tie the game at 2.
– Kyle Connor got things going in the 3rd with a nice backhand of his own to give the Jets a 3-2 lead;
– Nyquist got his second goal of the game when he got a piece of a a Vlasic shot to make it 3-3;
– The 2nd period would end 3-3.
– San Jose re-took the lead early in the 3rd when Jumbo Joe hit Sorenson with a perfect pass which he put upstairs on Hellebuyck;
– Mathieu Perreault tied it up with 3:38 left in the game on a nice tip of a Myers shot from the point;
– Blake Wheeler left and came back after he took a Couture elbow to the head;
– Somehow the Jets allowed a late 2 on 1 against which Pavelski finished off to give the visitors a 5-4 lead with 4.3 seconds left;

Notable:

The Jets lost 5-4 to a team playing a second game of a back-to-back and without Evander Kane/Erik Karlsson. Of course the Sharks are leading the Western Conference so they aren’t exactly a light weight.

Coach Maurice:  Thoughts on the game and how it ended.  Where was the breakdown on that last Sharks goal?  What did he make of the end zone D coverage?  What happened when Blake Wheeler came off?  Net front traffic and the success they had with it tonight.  On Myers helping to push opportunity when down.

Up Next:
