I don’t think Ken puts enough on internal competition and personal improvement among players. Sure on paper goaltending looks weaker, but for the first time since returning to the Peg, the Jets have an established goalie with a young up and coming player looking to steal minutes. Montoya was good but he was never the goalie of the future like Hutch could be. Montoya was signed to back to back 600K deals to be Pavys backup.
the defense has a stud in Trouba who has a year under his belt and will look to take the next step, which is scary. Having Stuart as his partner is a good move, but it would be nice to see a young player step up to take his minutes. A healthy Bogo will be nice partnered with Enstrom.
The forwards have improved more than Ken mentions IMO. Seeing Scheifle play for Canada showed jets fans that he is the real deal. Have Scheifle centering the second line with potential line mates Kane and WHeeler is a scary combination of speed and size. Creating a competition on the bottom 6 in smart. Adding a vets like Galliardi (283 NHL games) and Perreault are nice moves. It’ll be a battle for the wing positions in the bottom 6.
