According to Gare Joyce (a feature writer and editor at Rogers Sportsnet) who tweeted the following news today, the Jets could be in play for the top selection this year:

Interesting news I’m sure for Jets fans.  We will have to wait till Friday to see if anything materializes or if Winnipeg stays the course and drafts in the ninth spot.  The speculation has columnist David Staples of the Edmonton Journal wondering how this move could impact the Oilers.

Don’t forget that the entire IC crew will be at the Draft in Philadelphia so be sure to stay tuned to the site for all the latest Jets news from the City of Brotherly Love and follow us on twitter @illegalcurve.

Trade next year’s first round pick, Tobias
Enstrom and former 3rd overall 1st round pick, Zach
Bogosian, Throw Pavs into the mix somehow…

Florida sends – 1st overall pick, Scott Clemmensen
(as depth to backup Hutch), Jesse Winchester, versatile centre as bottom 6
depth insurance should Slater go down again.

    Center: Little – Scheifele – Winchester/ O’dell – Slater
Right: Wheeler – Frolik – Byfuglien -Thorburn
Left: Kane – Ladd – Tangradi – Halischuk

Sam Reinhart – C/RW – chosen 1st overall by the Jets sent back to Junior
next year for seasoning. If he sticks with the big club he could be an upgrade
to the 3rd line centre spot. More depth the better.

@disqus_OK3V4NzQrZ:disqus I am sorry, but your trade is awful. it doesn’t work on the ice, or on the balance sheet (14- 15 million out, 0 back in)

It takes away our top D-pairing and our starting goalie and throws in our 1st round pick (which is still a top 10 pick) in exchange for a possible impact player? (Professional Sports Team Asset management 101 says this is deal bad news for us)

Don’t get me wrong I would love the Jet’s to move up, but it has to be the right fit. (Both Clemmensen & Winchester are pending UFA’s by the way) & I do like Winchester, but blowing up the core that you just signed last year sends a horrible message to the rest of the team moving forward.

The Jets need to work. They need to prepare & they need to mature off the ice. All of these things have already been set in motion, as the players need to either get in line with the team culture or ship out.

I know a few of the pundits wrote about a culture change in the locker room, but no one is going to give you value back for Pavelec, more over I don’t think he was the whole problem. His confidence is shot, but more importantly I think he finally learned that he needs to focus more on his training in the off season. The Country club attitude was okay in Atlanta, but it doesn’t work in the central… Same goes for Bogo. Buddy needs to slow things down this off season, and get healthy.

Enstrom is a good 2 way D. Would I like to see him grow? Sure… but he is a rare find in the league. We just have to use him better.

Personally I think if the Jets do move up, they will do so by trading Evander Kane. The Jet’s have 16 million tied up on LW right now if Buff is playing that spot and paying 6 million for a 3rd line LW is too much in my book. Trade Kane, keep the 9th overall pick grab Ekblad and then swap out Bogosian for some help down the middle like Kadri from Tor or something… who knows…

Interesting options down the middle for a third line role are Dominic Moore from the Rangers, as you mentioned, Winchester from the Panthers or even Malholtra. (All have FO % above 50%)

Bottom line is the Jets need some depth at Center and I don’t know if Adam Lowry is ready or if you want to bet the farm on Eric Odell making the jump.

Whatever… I am pumped for the draft.

Also There are some decent UFA LW out there. Mason Raymond is available again and he has a home here already. What about Daniel Winnik? Lots of deals to be had I am sure. How about some love for Calgary Hitmen super sniper Jake Virtanen in a Jets uni some day? That boy can shoot the puck!
