Note III: Reminder that following the Jets game, our comprehensive coverage jumps into action with post-game audio from both dressing rooms, coach Noel’s post-game presser as well as our podcast from the pressbox breaking down the game action.
Winnipeg Free Press: LIVING the dream, ONE MOMENT AT A TIME. That is why getting the most out of training camp is so important for the younger players, because they really have no idea how long they will be sticking around.
Winnipeg Free Press: Tough choice as these ‘keepers are all keepers. Competition is the name of the game and having more of it can only help.
Winnipeg Free Press: Early birds get the W. While we may take exhibition games to be fairly meaningless, some players refuse to accept this and suggest a win every game mentality is of utmost importance.
Winnipeg Sun: Training camp is a necessary evil but Winnipeg Jets are in it to win it. From the first few games to the monotony of the drills, many of the veterans know that it is a necessary evil but would obviously prefer to be playing in game situations. For the prospects though, it is a critical time for them to be evaluated by the brass.
Winnipeg Sun: Eric O’Dell is doing his part to get the attention of Winnipeg Jets brass. He has had to battle health concerns and is now in a fight to make his name in camp.
Winnipeg Sun: Pavelec’s stats need to get better — but team needs to help, says Noel. He has his detractors and supporters (although clearly not anyone at ESPN) but coach Noel knows that it is time his #1 netminder starts to step up his game.
Illegal Curve: Ten cut from Jets camp. Check out the players that were sent back to their respective teams yesterday. Only exception was Zach Bell who was sent to the IceCaps.
Illegal Curve: Coach Noel training camp scrum. Update on injury status of various players (nothing serious. Lodge, Thorburn, Gordon and Lowry). How many goalies will he use tomorrow night? Does he feel confident in his goaltending to get him to the playoffs? ESPN leaving Pavelec out of the top 25 list, is that fair? Thoughts on Zach Redmond. Will he be same player as before? How much does he want to see Ondrej play during pre-season? Does this team look at the pre-season different than other organizations? Made some roster moves this AM.
Illegal Curve: Player audio from the IcePlex. The Jets and prospects were back on the ice at the IcePlex as they get ready forthe game against the Edmonton Oilers at the MTS Centre. Hear from Brenden Kichton, Ondrej Pavelec, Grant Clitsome and Olli Jokinen.
Jets opposition (Edmonton Oilers) news:
Globe and Mail: Oilers are done maturing – time to start winning games. Fans can only put up with the re-build title for so long before they revolt.
Edmonton Journal: Defenceman Oscar Klefbom ready to play first NHL exhibition game in Winnipeg. Much like the Jets situation a number of players in Edmonton will be auditioning for roles with the team tonight.
Edmonton Sun: Dallas Eakins ghostbusting Edmonton Oilers locker room. Eakins is creating his own culture in Edmonton.
Globe and Mail: NHL suspends Coyotes’ Bissonnette 10 games for leaving bench to start fight. You can understand where Bissonnette is coming from as he wanted to come to the defence of his teammate but at the same time the NHL has rules for a reason.
