I give a hoot about the impending early (that is, long before the logistical drop-dead date) cancellation _because_ of the huge sum of fans' and sponsors' money the NHL is willing to lose, just to avoid the appearance of allowing the players to have any leverage. This decision will show that the owners care more about not giving in to the players than they do about league revenue; if they truly wanted to salvage a season, they wouldn't be so quick off the mark to turn off this source of revenue. The owners are demonstrating that they won't be biased around by the players, or by Fehr, or even by their own self-interest in the form of league profits. How does one negotiate with people who rank their reputation for ballsiness above their own economic interest?

To slightly dial back my above comment, I can understand why it would matter, as in your situation you were obviously prepared to go to the game. However the vast majority of Manitobans will likely be a lot more upset by the fact that 19 Jets home and away games have been cancelled so far.

Why should Jets fans care if the Winter Classic is cancelled? Well I bought tickets through the Random Draw and I'm sure I would not be the only Winnipegger going. I'd be willing to bet fans from all thirty markets would have been in attendance to soak up the biggest hockey game in history.
