Did everyone signing a contract over the last year or two think that with the CBA expiring the players’ share of HRR was going to go up? Stay the same? Ever since the NBA and NFL settled around the 50% mark, the writing has been clearly on the wall: the players’ share of revenues is going down – but if they could’ve come to terms before the season was in jeopardy, this would still mean a huge raise for players over the course of the next CBA.

Fehr’s got the players whipped up about honoring contracts – well the only way players will receive every dime promised is if they get rid of escrow and a cap tied to revenues. That’s where this is going, so find a comfy spot to spend the next year or so without the NHL.
