Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers
Note: Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN Radio 1290 from 9-11 am today as the guys have the final action packed 2 hours of hockey talk before we revert to the fall/winter 3 hour schedule and our usual noon to 3 pm time slot. Today’s guest is Bruce Dowbiggin (Globe and Mail).
Winnipeg Free Press: Bogosian expected to be out four to six months. Perhaps a lockout wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all. Without Bogosian in the lineup for this timeline the Jets are going to have to rely on someone else, perhaps Paul Postma, to step up and fill his role. Puck Daddy: Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets (1.0) Edition. Our own Drew Mindell (@icdrew) was asked to contribute to Puck Daddy’s “The Essentials for their franchises”, which covers everything from the defining player and trade, to the indispensable fan traditions.
USA Today: Labor talks break off two weeks before deadline. Shall be interesting to see what the next round of talks bring.
ESPN: Stop fighting battle of right or wrong. There really is no good vs. evil in this fight. Appears to the average fan that it is greed vs. greed under the guise of cost certainty vs. livelihood.
SI.com: Lockout seems all but certain. After the disappointing lack of urgency this past week it seems all but inevitable that the pre-season games will be lost. Hopefully the NHL and NHLPA have some marathon sessions next week but that seems unlikely.
CBC: NHL vs. NHLPA: Fans react on Twitter to Friday’s talks. Not surprisingly the fans are taking to the twitter and unleashing their wrath on both the NHL and the NHLPA.
Globe and Mail: NHLers are not players, they’re entertainers. A good read ahead of Bruce Dowbiggin’s appearance on today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN Radio 1290.
The Tennessean: Predators lose charter airline flights for season. Will the Preds be busing it around North America? Would be more cost effective. Based on the current CBA negotiations, I don’t suspect there is any urgency to getting this resolved before September 15th.
Toronto Star: Which NHL team had the best summer? Not a good spot if you are a Jets fan.
Illegal Procedure: Winnipeg Blue Bombers Papers. If you are a fan of CFL football, check out our other site, which gives you all the latest Bombers news.
