I agree with your Nickleback comment. They arent tops on my list of great bands, but they are Canadian and have a handful of good tunes that will pump up the crowd. Way too much hating on Nickelback! The jet are back and I dont care if they Weaker thans play their lame "I hate Winnipeg song"

To keep with the theme of Canadian bands...

The Tea Party (reformed)

How about a local Winnipeg/Manitoban bands/musicians:
Jet Set Satellite
Watchmen
Weakerthans (probably not, since their opinion on the new Jets logo)
Bachman/Cummings (They did play at the "Save the Jets" concert after all)
Tom Cochrane (huge rock/pop anthems such as "Life is a Highway" and fittingly "Big League", how fitting would that last song be?)

Good music is a matter of opinion.

I am not a fan of Nickelback, but they are a big band. Good or not, they have more album buying fans than a lot of other artists. They must be good enough to make people wanna spend money. No band will please everybody. The hits and sales indicate Nickelback will appeal to many. It is what it is.

Ultimately, I don't understand where anybody gets off complaining about a free concert that nobody is making them attend.

Who cares who is playing... Drink beers, hang out with friends enjoy the people, the fandom and the fact that the NHL will be re debuting in Winnipeg in very short order.

We already won!

Is this going to only be carried by CBC, or will there be American coverage too? If so, I doubt they'll pick a band that doesn't have big appeal south of the border, likely relegating the Hip to the "too Canadian" pile. If they do go with Nickelback, I say we all go to the show, but turn our backs to them when they play, and listen to music that doesn't suck through headphones. That'll be a great image for Nickelback's legacy: an audience protest at a corporate gig.
