Wins and GAA are team stats. How can you put him in a class with multiple Vezina winners, Conn Smythe Trophy Winners and league MVPs? Cujo is 4th on the wins list and isn’t a HoF goalie either IMO.

4th best all time W%; 7th best all time GAA; 10th all time in wins.
He’s gotta be a HOFer. Regardless of his team, he showed up and got it done.

I don’t see it. Wins is the only number where he was differentiated himself and a lot of that had to do with the team he played for.

Was he better (career) than Roy, Cujo, Eddie, Vernon, Hasek? I say no.

Many would debate if he was ever better than Khabibulin, Kolzig and many others at diffrent points. His longevity is impressive, but IMO he was never an elite goalie. He was a solid goalie on an elite team.

As Tim suggests, provided they don’t pay too much, could be a decent veteran signing by the Jets.

Age is a factor as he is 36 but aside from injury last season he did almost have two back to back 20 goal seasons (in 2008/09 he had 19).

I think Little stays at C regardless. I don’t mind the signing though. The frenzy has calmed, there may be a few bargains out there.

I asked this question before, but what do you guys think of the Jets signing Vinny Prospal? He’s 6’2, 210 and can play either LW or C. He was injured last season but still had 23 points in 29 games. The 2 seasons before last, Prospal played all but 7 games and registered 103 points.
By signing him you could move Little and/or Antropov to the wing and allow Burmistrov a buffer period from being the top C.

numbers and career accomplishment wise Osgood is a HOFer. I honestly think it is a no brainer. he wont be a first ballot guy, but he’ll find his way into the Hall.

Saw those numbers, but there are other factors:
Zero Vezna trophies.
Jennings Trophies came on teams with Hasek and Vernon.
He was never the best goalie in the league.
He was never among the top 3 to 5.

Hall of Fame should be reserved for elite players like Belfort, Roy, Marty and Hasek. They were dominant players and perennial All Stars. Multiple Vezna Winners, Multiple Jennings winners. IT isn’t the hall of the very good.

That’s my thought on the issue anyways.

From the above Rosenberg article Tim some numbers to consider:

“Osgood’s playoff numbers: 2.09 goals-against average, .916 save percentage, 74-49 record, two Stanley Cups (and another as a backup).

And Martin Brodeur’s playoff numbers: 2.01 goals-against average, .919 save percentage, 99-82 record, three Stanley Cups.”

I’ve watched him play live numerous times at the Joe and he was usually solid but you can bet there will be a lot of debate as to whether he is HOF worthy.

Osgood was a good player on a number of great teams… I can’t remember a point when he was considered to be among the top 5 goalies in the league. HOF is for the elite. He was good, but never elite.

Sounds like DeBoer will have the Devils continue to play defensively as per an espn quote of his;

“Like I said, philosophically I think (Lou and me) are on the same page, we believe in the same things,” DeBoer said. “I think every coach has his own identity and his own characteristics. We want to pursue the puck. We want to dictate the pace of the play. But at the same time the foundation of that is still good, solid defensive hockey and playing the right way, and I think that meshes perfectly with what they do here.”

Dave, I think the signing of Pete DeBoer as New Jersey Devils Head Coach is a smart one. DeBoer has a proven track record with Kitchener in the OHL and for Canada as an assistant at the World Junior Hockey Championships. It might have been a surprising hire with the likes of Ken Hitchcock and Guy Carbonneau out there but it is definitely a good one. It will be interesting to see how the Devils play in the first few months of the season as last year they struggled mightily under John MacLean.
