If they do decide to name them something other than Jets, it'll be ok. Winnipeg can still honor Hawerchuk, Hull, Steen, etc. because even though their records belong to the Coyotes, the memories belong to the city of Winnipeg. But, as a Thrashers fan, don't forget our history, as pitiful as it may seem. Boo Heatley everytime he touches the puck.

If they chose new name (and I hope they don't) it would be awesome if they had Hawerchuk, Steen and Hull come out wearing old Jets jerseys only to flip them inside out and have the new team logo.

I'm just exhausted from all this speculation. It has gotten as bad as whether or not we were getting a team. C'mon True North, please reveal the name.

Good article.

Your comment is correct inasumuch as Baltimore didn't have the option of using the old name, but I think the point here is IF you choose to use a new name there is a tasteful way of doing so. No, Baltimore didn't have the option of using the new name but yes, they moved forward in a classy way that looks like it would be a good model to emulate. Honestly...if Teemu and Ducky and Bobby show up for game 1 and put on Falcons jerseys who can honestly say that won't be a powerful moment???

There's an issue here. Baltimore couldn't call its team the 'Colts' because there was already a 'Colts' franchise in the league, the one in Indianapolis. That ended any hope of calling it what Baltimore fans really wanted.

There's no teams in the NHL called the 'Jets' and the NHL has already told True North that it's free to use the trademark. It's not making a conscious decision to move forward from a sort of forbidden fruit that Winnipeggers cannot have, we literally have no legal obstacles to using the Jets as a name for the team.
