Afternoon Delight: Friday

Posted by Kyle Kosior in Afternoon Delight on May 15, 2009 2:47 pm / 6 comments

  • Its Jordan vs.  Eric in the Eastern conference finals. Play hard for daddy’s love.
  • Greatest Hockey Legends on the importance of scoring first. Thats what she said?
  • Jim Balsillie adds two heavyweight corporate sponsors, as announced over at his website.
  • Mike Smith with a little something for the math nerds. The math is fine, but for heaven’s sake please watch a live game or two before making your prognostications.
  • Goon’s World with an update on whats new in the college hockey world. Should be an interesting summer.
  • Kevin Smith is making a hockey movie? Snootchie bootchie.
  • Should Cam Ward be part of the goalie discussion for Team Canada 2010? Why not, he has elevated his play lately.

“Labatt Breweries and Home Hardware are the first two anchor corporate partners to lend their support for the movement that has gained the support of 120,000 people from coast to coast and beyond.”

Wow. Pretty impressive sponsors although I am SHOCKED that companies would go out on a limb like this. NHL won’t be very happy and Gary will certainly not be drinking any Labatt products in the near future.

I don’t think Gary was putting back to many Labatt Lights anyways. Only the finest wines made with grapes crushed by actual Italian peasants for him.

No one has mentioned that while he could have gone the dishonest route of buying a franchise and waiting a year or two to move it, Jim Balsillie instead was honest about his intentions.

Apparently the NHL prefers to approve owners who are dishonest and face prison sentences as a result.

    Danielle,

I agree and said as much on the Illegal Curve Radio Show on Wednesday. He could have “attempted” to make a go with Nashville or Phoenix and then moved them but he didn’t disguise his intentions and is now being punished as a result. Looking forward to Bankruptcy court day.

Balsillie needs either an SEC investigation or some jail time. That seems to be the criteria for buying an NHL team these days.

How many points do the Jets need playing 6 of 7 on the road to still have playoff expectations?
