The weekly Hot List from The Hockey News and a good article about the NHL discipline system (or lack thereof). Aaron Ward’s press conference made it all worthwhile.
Speaking of the NHL’s failings, which genius scheduled tonight’s Game 7′s an hour apart? I suppose having them start at the same time wasn’t an available option?
Gare Joyce says the CHL got it right when it returned the Memorial Cup to a junior-sized venue.
Fanhouse with a post on why the NHL will always be a fringe league in the United States. Maybe if they scheduled two exciting Game 7′s at the same time on the same night…wait, what?
Greatest Hockey Legends takes a look at the greatest beards of playoff yore. No mention of Katie Holmes, which seems like an egregious error.
In perusing the greatest hits over at Barry Melrose Rocks, I found this post chronicling the survivors of EA Sports’ NHL 94.I scored many a hat-trick with Shjon Podein….(thats what she said?)

Kyle! You are stealing my shtick criticizing the NHL’s schedule makers. Are you going to go after Gary Bettman next?

As someone who is in the US and can’t get enough hockey, the scheduling pisses me off beyond all repair. I mean seriously, I have worked hard to get the games on the tv at the bars in Cowboy country and now I can’t even watch them both. What the Fuck.
To put this into an even greater perspective, I am asking for more coverage from the Versus Network… Some of the worst coverage I have ever seen/heard, but I want more. Instead I have to rely on an internet connection and watch the other game on NHL Centre Ice so I can’t leave my humble abode and get hammered yelling at the tv in public like Bobby Brown to Whitney Houston.
NHL = Worst Marketing Ever

From Toronto Sun:
Didja enjoy the game between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins last night?
The series ended with a thud, the Penguins winning 6-2.
But the hyped showdown was more of a dud in the U.S.
Only 647,000 American viewers tuned into Game 4 of the series, according to Time.com. It’s not known how many hundreds of those were from the greater Phoenix area.
Sadly, the hockey broadcast was the 81st-highest-rated program on cable that night in the U.S., ranking well behind a Batman episode on the Cartoon Network (1.5 million viewers), and a Reba rerun on Lifetime (930,000).
With numbers like that, it’s amazing Reba hasn’t been cancelled.

Oilyflame,
I humbly submit to you a rant from a few weeks ago, which dealt with the marketing and scheduling “wizardry” of those geniuses at NHL head office. To say that this has been a pet peeve of mine, would be an understatement. Why the NHL refuses to do anything about it, is beyond my understanding.
Anyways, here is the article for you to peruse, if you so choose:
