On the Beat: Ilya Kovalchuk demoted to fourth line?

Posted by Richard Pollock in On the Beat on December 1, 2008 — 4 Comments

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • Teemu Selanne says the Ducks need to get off to faster startsIt has worked lately.
  • Ilya Kovalchuk has been demoted to the fourth line in Atlanta.  He hasn’t been good enough this season and John Anderson is clearly using this as a wake-up call.
  • Marco Sturm (concussion) was skating at practice todayLooks like he’s almost ready to play.
  • Ales Kotalik (hamstring) will return to the Sabres line-up tonight and will take the place of Patrick Kaleta (head/neck).  Also of note, Afinogenov looks like he’ll be a healthy scratch.
  • A recap of the injury statuses of what is seemingly half the Devils’ roster from Tom Gulitti.  Things seem to getting better in Newark.
  • Kim Johnsson will be the Wild captain in the month of December.  Lemaire loves the rotating captains.
  • Here is the Capitals’ injury report from Tarik El-Bashir.  No significant changes.

Hey Richard — don’t know if you saw it, but Sam McCaig at thehockeynews.com is pretty much quoting you verbatim from last Sunday’s podcast re: shootouts in parts of his Nov. 29th blog entry “Shootouts Still Wrong”.

    Coincidence? Flattering? Plagarism?

Speaking of podcasts…November 30? You probably said earlier there wouldn’t be one and I missed it.

I’ll say coincidence but I am happy some people share the same sentiments regarding the shootout.

The podcast was on vacation this week but we’re back next week with an interview lined up that I bet you’ll enjoy.

Sean Avery? Or his girlfriend? Eric Duhatschek? Carbo?

    The suspense is killing me…

  • Bob Roberts

So…I’m guessing maybe not Avery then…
