Here is what beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • In surprising news, Bob Murray is taking over for Brian Burke as GM of the Anaheim Ducks.  We are awaiting word as to the full details of this move.
  • Matt Cullen, Brandon Sutter and Joni Pitkanen will return to the Hurricanes line-up tonight.  Great news for Canes fans as all three play integral roles on the hockey club.
  • Apparently Peter Forsberg has had yet another foot surgeryWho knows if he will ever return to the NHL.
  • Brenden Morrow is not going to be suspended for his instigator penalty last night in Los Angeles.  Good move by the NHL using its discretion here.  I didn’t think Morrow’s actions warranted a suspension.
  • Craig Anderson gets the start in net for Florida tonight versus Tampa Bay.  Interesting decision to skip Vokoun and start Anderson two games in a row.
  • Jarkko Ruutu has been given a two-game suspension for his elbow to the head of Maxim Lapierre.  This suspension was deserved.
  • Bob Roberts

Burke on taking the Leaf job has always reminded me of that guy with the long nose in Shrek who answers a “Do you know where…?” question with an incredible mobius strip of an evasion which begins with or includes something like “I can not not say with any certainty that I am or am not unaware or aware of the whereabouts of anyone who is or is not the subject of your question…”. (It must be on youtube — check it out, it’s hilarious. It would be great dubbed over one of the many thousand Burke tap dances on that subject.)

You’d almost think Burke was a lawyer, wouldn’t you? (No offense!)

I loved the playing of the family card. Classic.

ABC — what’s Vegas saying on the announcement time for Burke as GM in TO? The over/under is what, 7 days? A bit more for the sake of appearances?
