Afternoon Delight

  • Here are the Atlanta lines from practice today.  Not exactly intimidating…
  • Blake Wheeler has made the Boston Bruins.  He played well enough to earn a spot and they created one for him.
  • T.J. Hensick has been sent to the AHL by the Avalanche.  They have so many good forwards that it was tough for him to gain a spot out of camp.
  • The Oilers “new” third jersey should be their only one, writes Dave Staples.  Couldn’t agree more.
  • Brendan Shanahan won’t end up in DetroitHolland is a class act but the Wings have about 6 players on the outside of their starting line-up that could make any other team in the league.
  • Cory Murphy has been waived by the Panthers.  He’s cheap and offensive and from Ottawa, could the Sens possibly be interested?
  • Nikolai Khabibulin is on the Hawks roster to start the season and Cam Barker is not.  Khabibulin will hope to play his way out of town and the Hawks will hope for the same.
  • Josh Bailey had made the Islanders’ opening day line-up.  Moderately surprising but a nice accomplishment nonetheless.
  • Kyle McLaren has been placed on waivers by the Sharks. I’m interested to see whether he gets claimed, as there are a number of teams who could use a defenseman with his characteristics.
  • The Ducks have named Scott Niedermayer captainThere isn’t anything he hasn’t won in his career so this can’t be a bad choice.
  • Here are how the Canucks’ lines are shaping up for the regular season opener.  No surprises.
  • Top ten goalie masks of all-time.  Belfour is number one for me.
